Our story in time

1945

Resilience in Adversity

Schoeller Holdings is founded in Cyprus by Heinrich Schoeller and is initially primarily engaged in maritime activities through its ship management arm Columbia Shipmanagement; later expanding into, amongst others, shipowning, commercial and liner shipping, aviation, hospitality, hotels and restaurants, landscaping and horticulture.

Due to the occupation by the Russians at the end of the second world war, the Schoeller family had to give up all agricultural properties and factories in Silesia, becoming refugees and later settling in the western part of Germany.

Strengthening Resources

Expansion of coal mining activities with the acquisition of 50% of Grünbacher Steinkohlenwerken.

1884

From Cellulose to Cartons

Foundation of Hirschwanger Cellulosefabrik und Holzschleiferei Schoeller & Co. which went from producing cellulose for the paper industry, to producing cartons and holding the monopoly on the production of sugar cube boxes for the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
