1945

Resilience in Adversity
Due to the occupation by the Russians at the end of the second world war, the Schoeller family had to give up all agricultural properties and factories in Silesia, becoming refugees and later settling in the western part of Germany.

1917

Strengthening Resources
Expansion of coal mining activities with the acquisition of 50% of Grünbacher Steinkohlenwerken.

1884

From Cellulose to Cartons
Foundation of Hirschwanger Cellulosefabrik und Holzschleiferei Schoeller & Co. which went from producing cellulose for the paper industry, to producing cartons and holding the monopoly on the production of sugar cube boxes for the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Founding of Alexander Schoeller & Co
Foundation of Alexander Schoeller & Co. Zuckerfabriken, Jülich.

1860's

Expansion in Sweetness
Acquisition and operation of Silesian sugar factories Klettendorf, Gross Mochbern, Rosethal. (Gebrüder Schoeller oHG) and founding of the sugar factory Schoeller, Peill & Brockhoff in Düren in 1869.

1862

Acquisition of Hütteldorfer Brewery and Formation of Brauerei Schwechat
1862 Acquisition of the brewery “Hütteldorfer Bierbrauerei A.G.” founded in 1599, which in 1927 merged with “Vereinigten Brauereien Schwechat” to become “Brauerei Schwechat A.G.

1862

Founding of Schoeller Steelworks
Foundation of Schoeller-Stahlwerke (Steelworks) in Austria, producing amongst others steel water pipes for the city of Vienna, steam train wheels and wheelsets, axles, and railways. Later also producing armour plates and bulletproof sheets for the Austro-Hungarian army and navy. Schoeller Stahlwerke would later become Schoeller-Bleckmann-Stahlwerke AG in 1924.

1850's

Acquisition of Sugar Factories in Austria and Hungary
Purchase of sugar factories in Austria (Czakowitz, Wieselberg bei Ödenburg, Czaslau, Wrdy (Bohemia), Czepreg bei Ödenburg, and later in Leipnik (Leipnik-Lundenburger Zuckerfabriken AG.) Kawssitz, Wschetul, Grosszinkendorf, Bük and Petö (Hungary) herewith accounting for one percent of worldwide sugar production. Including also extensive agricultural lands for production of sugar beets.

1843

Investing in Silesia
Start of investments in Silesia including expansive farmland and agricultural enterprises to support textile and wool production, numerous manor houses and knight’s estates, and later sugar factories, paper production, brickworks, and stoneware.

1833

Establishment of Schoeller Bank
Foundation of the Schoeller Bank in Vienna and further expansion of the industrial conglomerate in Austria, Switzerland, Silesia, Poland.

1773

Launch of Schoeller Paper Production in Düren
Start of the Schoeller paper production in Düren (Schoellershammer and Felix Schoeller Papier)

1718

Initiation of Schoeller Textile Production in Düren
Start of the Schoeller textile production in Düren (Gebrüder Schoeller Anker Teppiche and Schoeller Textil, Switzerland)

1500's

Roots of the Schoeller Industrial Family
Origin of the Schoeller industrial family with iron production in Kirschseiffen, Hellenthal in Germany – still the site of the Schoeller Werk today. Subsequently the family was pioneering into textile.
